Contribution to My Learning and My Learning Community: 5315 Assessing Digital Learning Instruction & 5317 Resources and Digital Environments

This blog post is a reflection of my contributions to my learning and my learning community. As I reflect on my contribution to the courses 5315 Assessing Digital Learning Instruction and 5317 Resources and Digital Environments, my self-assessment is as follows:

5315 Assessing Digital Learning Instruction: 89/100

5317 Resources and Digital Environments: 89/100

My learning community for 5315 and 5317 included myself, Audrey Parcell, Samara Marin, Anna Gonzalez, Rose Rayner, and 13 other members. Each member within our group supported each other by answering course-related questions and providing feedforward, and members collaboratively revised each other's publication rough drafts, media projects, action research outlines, and literature reviews.

What Worked?

The collaborative efforts between my peers and me were highly effective in enhancing our collective learning experience. Regular peer feedback sessions from the 5317 cohort allowed us to share diverse perspectives and constructive feedforward, which were instrumental in refining our publication rough drafts. The open and supportive communication within our group created a safe space for sharing ideas and seeking help. For instance, during the publication rough draft phase, I received valuable suggestions that helped me rethink and improve my examples for digital tools, leading to a more coherent and believable final draft for Edutopia. Additionally, our collaborative approach to the media project, where we shared tips and resources on digital content creation, significantly boosted our confidence and skills. This spirit of mutual support and shared learning not only improved the quality of our projects but also strengthened our community, fostering a sense of camaraderie and collective achievement.

What worked well for me this term was maintaining a Google Doc with assignment deadlines for 5315 and 5317 to keep myself accountable. I actively contributed to all Blackboard discussion prompts, ensuring that I replied to at least two peers for each collaborative discussion. I also dedicated time to reviewing most of the videos, readings, and links shared within the course, which helped me stay engaged and on track with my learning objectives.

What Could Be Better?

During the summer 2024 term, I did not attend the bi-weekly sessions in Dr. Meeuwse's or Dr. Harisson's courses. Instead, I reviewed PowerPoint and post-recorded sessions. I could ultimately carve out time to attend a live session with my daughter beside me. I believe I avoided the sessions because it is difficult to attend to my two-year-old and a class discussion simultaneously.

Contribution to My Learning Community

Each assignment from 5315 and 5317 significantly contributed to my learning. The publication tasks enhanced my research and writing skills, while the media project developed my digital literacy. Engaging with peers through feedback and discussions fostered a collaborative learning environment. These interactions enriched my understanding and allowed me to contribute meaningfully to the learning community.

Incorporating our action research assignments and literature reviews further enriched our learning community. By sharing findings and insights from our action research, we explored various instructional strategies and their impact on student learning. This exchange of ideas deepened our understanding of effective teaching practices and provided practical examples that could be implemented in our classrooms. Discussing our literature reviews highlighted key studies and theories, broadening our knowledge base and fostering intellectual growth. The spirit of mutual support and shared learning improved the quality of our projects and strengthened our community, fostering a sense of camaraderie and collective achievement.

In conclusion, I believe I've fulfilled most of the key components of contributing to my learning and my learning community by posting in a timely fashion so others can respond to my postings on Blackboard, my posts reflect depth, research, and APA citations, and I created a podcast outside of assignment requirements to deepen my interest with the topic I was divulging in. Participating in both courses has made me realize that the more I engage with the ADL program, the more I will grow over time. Moving forward, I will focus on better managing my time so I can attend more live sessions. Overall, it has been a valuable and productive learning experience!
